CrossFit Games 2021: What can you expect?

CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. You've heard of the Reebok equipment, the Pegboard contest and the Cutting system. But do you know what to expect from the women's competition? Keep reading to find out! The competition for women

The swim event was the start of the women's division at the 2021 Crossfit Games. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler was also a rising star. In 2018, she competed in team division and came in third in the United States. She finished fifteenth in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

Pegboard was an original feature at Crossfit Games 2021. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr held the record for most Games wins with 30. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

Athletes train for the CrossFit Games by focusing on ten general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, and agility. The Pegboard contest tests a competitor's grip strength and coordination. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was fierce, and the athletes were left feeling a sense of accomplishment after completing the Pegboard.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. The competition has 15 individual events. Therefore, it's likely that the first cut of 30 athletes will occur after the seventh or eight event. The question is: How will CrossFit adjust points after cuts? The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.

This year's CrossFit Games field includes 236 athletes. It is the largest ever. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is now reduced to 75. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system was criticized by veterans Games participants who felt the cuts were too large.

Reebok equipment

Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. Reebok won't be funding the Games' prize fund, but will continue making all athletic apparel and equipment worn athletes by, including the Reebok gear. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
