Women are competing
This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field comprises nine athletes, one of whom is a teenager who won the competition in Australia last summer. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 for men and earned his third win of the Games. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.
System of cutting
The CrossFit Games will once again employ a cutting system for the individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.
This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
